I never think about this while I'm actually making jewelry, but once it's going up in the shop, it's a constant struggle to keep the listings balanced with colors, styles and types of jewelry. I always have too many earrings, and I'm often under-pinked and over-blued and weirdly-greened. I'm hardly ever happy with it, but just now when I posted my most recent listing I realized it was absolutely perfect. So I took a screenshot, because I'll have to post something else later on, or something might sell, and it just won't last; but for now, here it is, immortalized, the first 12 items in my shop, representing the best possible lineup I could hope for. Aahhhhhhhhhhh.

treasury mania
For you Etsy-lifers out there, a small cautionary tale: when entering Treasury West, be prepared. Not once, not twice, but thrice prepared. I made a treasury I had all planned out:

And when I went back to check on it, I got another one. It was okay, I had something kind of in mind:
But when I went back to check on that one, the all-benevolent, ever-giving Treasury West gave me a third shot at stardom, and I completely panicked. I actually quite like the end result, though, so here it is:
But I'm not going back in there again. Not without a helmet and a battle plan. Click to enlarge the screenshots, and you can see the shop name of each item.

etsy urban hip, week who knows: days of wine & roses
I'm hunting around for a new format for promoting my favorite Etsy shops, but before the busy holiday season sets in for real, I wanted to do one last one in my original Urban Hip accessories format. At the moment, I'm in love with wine red. The rich color and the way it plays off my current favorite paper background are just delighting me, so it's all over my shop. Here are some of my favorite red items by my favorite urban hipsters. Click the pictures to shop, people!

dirty little habit
Remember in The Ice Harvest how John Cusack is always scrawling "As Wichita falls, so falls Wichita Falls" on everything? No? I guess I really am the only person who saw that movie.
I'm a huge fan of creative graffiti, so I have this thing I like to do. I've been doing it for a long time now, and I think of it as sort of an indicator of local culture. I collect bathroom graffiti. There. I said it. I write down the things that other people write on bathroom walls, and lately I've actually started taking pictures of the things that other people write on bathroom walls. Not all of it is suitable for public blog consumption, but some of it is fascinating, so I'm offering a sampling. If you click to enlarge them, you can read them pretty clearly.
And if you take nothing else away from this post, at least remember to always, always have a Sharpie Mini on your person at all times. 'Cuz lipstick is ew.

vice is nice
Several weeks ago, fringe and I decided we'd like to try turning our affinity for vice (the aura of it, if not the constant practice) into a design project. Because we don't have enough to do already, right? We're having endless fun coming up with different kinds of vices, complementary and contrasting designs, and names for our finished products. I design a piece of jewelry, she designs one of her scrumptious pieces of wearable fiber artistry, we help each other with our names and descriptions and we each reference the other's piece in our listings. We've done two so far, and we're practically delirious with the possibilities for more. Viva Vice!

schoodies, silk quilts and imaginary pets
It's been one of those seasons where I just can't seem to find a minute to catch my breath. Obviously. I haven't posted anything in over a month. To try to fool myself into relaxing and escaping a little bit, I made a treasury on Etsy full of things that my cabin in the woods (if I had one) would have. The shops featured are listed below. Keith Phillips' lovely birdhouse has sold out, but I'm leaving it in anyway because it's so perfect, and because his shop is full of plenty of other great cabin-in-the-woodsy stuff.
