nature, red in tooth and claw

I've been a little sidetracked lately, watching ms. birdie num nums here. Shana told me about this incredible live barn owl webcam. It sounded fascinating, so I googled it. It turns out that fascinating isn't nearly a large enough word to cover it.

Molly is a wild barn owl, currently waiting for her eggs to hatch in a cozy nest box. That's where the cozy ends. It's so amazing to watch this beautiful creature go about her wild life, completely unedited and unaware of observers. Yesterday morning I watched her eat a rabbit that her mate brought for her - the last we saw of the rabbit was its feet hanging out of her beak as she swallowed it. The first of the owlets is due to hatch any minute now, and I'm having a hard time getting any work done. I don't want to miss watching this spectacle unfold.

wow! I saw references to molly on twitter and wondered what was going on (and if everyone had gone mad).
Looks like I'll be watching avidly now too..

I'm so avoiding Molly, because I know I'll be addicted! (And besides which, I have a certain fondness for Mollies ....) But I did just succumb after your enticing post and got to see a couple of little peeping fluff balls with big razor beaks (wow!) ... and they're so cute!

Backing away from the computer ...
