imaginary gardens with real toads in them.

April is National Poetry Month. In honor of that, I bring you this post - my title is Marianne Moore's definition of poetry - and a resolution to try to post a poem a day all this month. I say resolution, not promise. I am weak, and have already missed day 1.

For today, here's a favorite and one that has been on my mind a lot.

Late Fragment

And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.
