stop all the things.

I'll be on internet radio silence this Saturday and Sunday. Taking a few days off from internet everything is something I try to do at least once a year. It's always really hard for me to do, and it usually ends up being great. (Then again, sometimes it just makes me bite my nails and fidget until my self-appointed deadline passes.)

My last episode of internet deprivation was in June of last year. I went back to look at my notes from that one, and found that it was three days long and also included a phone blackout. Hardcore. I can't manage that at the moment, but I'm looking forward to two days with my own thoughts and getting some things done. My apartment needs cleaning on a cellular level. I have a pile of friendly mail stacked up in a corner that needs to be packaged & accompanied by letters & sent off to various people. I have a wholesale order to complete and deliver. It's been kind of a big week already, and this morning I gave notice at work that I would be leaving at the end of September to move to Portland, OR. I'll need at least these two days to sit with that knowledge and get used to it. (There will be further posts on this project as the move gets closer.)

When I go to bed on Friday, I'll shut my laptop down. This will be the first time I've ever tried time off while in possession of a smartphone. That'll be harder; I'm thinking I might have to delete a bunch of shortcuts from my screen for the duration so I'm not tempted. Less tempted. Just as tempted, but requiring an extra step. Sigh.

Wish me luck; I'll see you Monday.

Sigh. For six years I've lived just under two hours from Portland. And in September we'll be moving back down to Los Angeles. Hopefully we can visit on one of our frequent to-and-froms.

I still remember a very good lamb tagine on Nantucket as one of my most memorable meals.
